Lifestyle Affects Cancer Risk, continued.....

Continuing from the previous post from August 24, 2009, the February 2009 results of the joint American-British study also made recommendations for policy improvements to governments, industries, media, schools, workplaces and humanity. They are as follows:

          • Government should build walking and cycling routes.

          • The food and drinks industry should make public health an "explicit priority."

          • Schools should encourage exercise and provide healthy food.

          • Schools, workplaces and institutions should remove junk food from vending machines.

          • Health professionals should provide more information about healthy living and cancer prevention.

          • People should use nutrition guides and food labels to buy healthier food for their families.

          Eating Cake

Does this mean I can never have another piece of cake again? Not likely in anybody's world! But with the knowledge that you have obtained, you can alot for the calorie count of an unhealthy food. For instance, you know that you will be attending a birthday party this evening, so you plan accordingly and cut back on calories throughout the day, leaving room for the Sara Lee Chocolate Layer Cake, 1/8, 3 oz. size equals 340 calories. I must admit that 340 calories is about equal to my personal allotment of calories for a meal. I have been known to eat a dessert for dinner with a salad. (Not very often because I consider it "Death Food" and that leaves a bad mental taste in my mouth). Or you could plan on adding an extra walk to your schedule. Do you see what I mean? This would not be a good thing to get in the habit of doing on a daily basis. After all, we are aiming to improve our health and lose or maintain our weight.
